Renewable Energy

Holygate Farm, Stapleford Farm Estate
Biomass Generator at Stapleford Farm Estate

Here at Stapleford we are committed to sourcing and investing in viable projects within the renewable sector to ensure where possible our impact on the environment is reduced.

In recent years we have invested in two large solar installations to ensure most of our energy on the farm is self-produced and whatever is not used is then sold back to the National Grid. We have also installed one large Biomass boiler and one air source heat pump while refurbishing our residential property to provide heat from renewable sources.

We are also currently appraising a Slurry Cooling System for a new 4000 pig unit. The technology originates in Denmark and we are working closely with a Danish and English company to bring this technology to Stapleford and becoming a leader in this field.

There are 3 main environmental benefits to the system. Firstly, ammonia emissions are greatly reduced by cooling of the slurry. Secondly, the nitrogen content of the slurry is greatly increased which has a huge benefit when the slurry is applied to the land leading to a reduction in the use of man-made fertiliser. Lastly, the heat from the slurry will be used to then heat certain properties on the farm therefore continually getting away from fossil fuels and using renewable sources.

If you would like any further information on any of our renewable projects, then please do not hesitate to contact the Estate Office.
